The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will not investigate police handling of the death of mum-of-two Janelle Duncan-Bailey.

The police watchdog decided there were insufficient grounds for an inquiry into officers' contact with the Thornton Heath nurse, whose body was found in a car in Mayfield Crescent on Saturday.

The Metropolitan Police had referred the case to the IPCC after concerns were raised by Miss Duncan-Bailey's family.

The 25-year-old, of Pawsons Road, was last seen on January 2 walking towards flats on Limpsdale Avenue with no shoes or coat on, having been dropped off by police.

She had earlier left her ex-partner's home with officers who had been called to the scene.

A spokeswoman for the IPCC said: "The IPCC received a referral from the Metropolitan Police Service on 7 January 2013.

"A thorough assessment of the available information has raised no concerns about the officers' conduct and as such the IPCC has determined that there is no need for further involvement at this stage and the matter can be returned to the force.

"It is standard procedure for the police to refer a matter to the IPCC where there has been prior contact with someone before their death."
