Cooks will be rustling up some treats this year as the first bake off comes to the borough.

The Great Croydon Bake Off is inspired by hit BBC series, the Great British Bake Off, the first event of its kind to be held in Croydon and will be held in four parts throughout 2013.

Each event will have a seasonal theme, starting with the winter bake off on February 16, at Matthews Yard.

There will be bake offs held on May 11 and July 13 with the grand final taking place on October 19.

Four different bakers will take part in each event and will be judged by professional bakers and culinary experts.

The competition was the brainchild of Chris Matthews, who is the founder of Croydon Eats Out, a food events brand which has regular meet ups such as the Croydon Dinner Club and Brunch Club.

Mr Matthews said: "I want to inject the emerging, bustling foodie culture in Croydon with creativity and provide a chance for Croydon bakers to show off their skills."
