Front counters at five Croydon police stations will close in plans released by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime today.

The counters at Purley, Kenley, Addington, Norbury and South Norwood have all been proposed for closure by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC).

Front counters will be replaced by contact Points. These will be in existing MPS and shared public buildings such as shops and post offices.

Croydon Police station will be the only 24 hour police station remaining.

South Norwood Police station is the only other 24 hour station in the borough at this point.

It is understood the front counter closures have put the stations themselves at risk, but no decisions have yet been taken on closing the buildings completely.

It emerged last year South Norwood Police Station had been earmarked for closure and sale.
