Precious family heirlooms, some up to 85-years-old, were stolen in a burglary last month.

Thieves ransacked a three-bedroom house in Turpin Way, Wallington, and took jewellery from a retired couple while they were on holiday between December 4 and December 7.

The burglars broke in by forcing the front door. They searched the whole house and took a safe containing jewellery from the living room and other items from a bedroom.

The owners left the house with the lights off but came home to find them all on.

Items the burglars stole include a handmade 60-year-old, platinum and gold engagement ring featuring two baguette diamonds either side of a solitaire diamond, a crescent brooch with diamonds and sapphires on it, a bar shaped brooch with an aquamarine stone surrounded by seed pearls and three tie pins.

If you have any information about the break in or the stolen items you can call Sutton's burglary and robbery team on 020 8649 0777 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
