Father Christmas postponed his holiday to make his first delivery of 2013 - almost £1,000 to a hospital radio charity.

Times Square shopping centre in Sutton Town Centre and pop-up store Christmas Starts Here raised almost £1,000 for the Radio Marsden charity, which aims to save the Royal Marsden cancer hospital's radio station from closure.

Santa made a special trip to Times Square to meet centre manager Noel Bergmann and hand over the cash earlier this week.

Mr Bergmann said: "Radio Marsden does a fantastic job throughout the year, bringing genuine joy to patients and staff at the Royal Marsden cancer hospital.

"We always put out a post box for letters to Father Christmas and this year we decided to donate 50p to Radio Marsden for every letter that was posted. Christmas Starts Here, which helps Santa run the grotto, also made a donation."

Radio Marsden needs to raise £50,000 to keep running.

I wonder why Radio Royal Marsden doesn't amalgamate with nearby Radio St, Helier and cut their costs by sharing resources and by doing so increase their audience.
