Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake celebrates pub plan with a pint
An MP celebrated the creation of a new body to help struggling landlords by popping down to his local for a pint.
Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake has welcomed the creation of a new independent pubs adjudicator which will oversee the relationship between publicans and large pub companies.
It aims to ensure landlords get a fair deal on rent and the prices they pay for beer.
Mr Brake said: "Pubs are an important part of our community and serve as vital meeting places for many of our residents. They play a key role in our local economy but many pubs up and down the country have been struggling in recent years.
"Many landlords have suffered real hardship and many have lost their livelihoods. For too long, large pub companies have been taking more than their fair share of the profits of their publicans and made life harder still for our locals."
Mr Brake enjoyed a pint at The Hope in Carshalton to celebrate the announcement.
