A grandmother-of-26 had a different 100th birthday to most after celebrating behind the bar at her favourite pub.

Nancy Weston and her family went for lunch at the Lord Nelson in North Cheam on her birthday on Wednesday, January 16, where Nancy celebrated with a glass of sherry.

Mrs Weston, who still does all her own cooking and washing, had a birthday bonanza week beginning on Saturday with an organist and over 60 members of her family at a party at her home Pollard House, in Worcester Park.

She performed a song for her family in a surprise performance.

She said: "I can't believe I'm going to be 100."

Her daughter, Julia Francis, came over from Australia for the special occasion and said: "Mum said my name in the middle of the song and I was crying. I don't think there was a dry eye.

"Mum’s always been bubbly and full of life, friendly and smiling."

Steve’s Card Shop in North Cheam has had to order more 100th birthday cards because so many people have been coming in to buy cards for Mrs Weston.

Her local supermarket, Sainsbury’s in North Cheam even presented her with a bouquet of flowers and she has been eagerly awaiting her card from the Queen.

Mrs Weston said her secret was her family keeping her young and added: "I don't sit down for five minutes I'm up and down like a yo yo."

Mrs Weston spent her life making dresses and only stopped at the ripe old age of 90. She is always smartly dressed in matching pastel colours - even in winter.

After the Queen Mother died, she wrote to the Queen and asked if she could have her clothes because her mother was the same size as her.

Unfortunately, the reply said it would not be possible as the clothes would go to a museum.
