Discount clothing store TK Maxx is to close it's branch in Croydon town centre at the end of the week.

The store offering shoppers up to 60 percent off designer brands and labels is closing their branch in Centrale Shopping Centre on January 26.

A spokeswoman for TK Maxx said there were no job losses because of the closure.

She added: "TK Maxx is very committed to the local area, however the landlords proposed redevelopment of the shopping centre has meant that we are unable to continue to trade from there."

Last May, Centrale owners Hammerson were given the green light to demolish the section of Centrale housing TK Maxx and replace it with an 11-screen cinema.

Their plans also included installing an eight-restaurant food court and two new retail outlets.

A spokeswoman for Centrale said: "We are currently looking at all elements of the scheme and our strategy to combine both centres.

"It is very much our intention to include a major cinema, and we will continue to keep the people of Croydon updated with news about the redevelopment as detailed plans are finalised.”

Last year TK Maxx opened a new store on Whitehorse Road, at the site of the former Staples store; that branch and a second branch on the Purley Way will remain open for business.
