Elmbridge Neighbourhood Watch and Elmbridge safer neighbourhood team have signed a pledge to make their partnership an even bigger success.

Neighbourhood Watch is the largest voluntary crime prevention group in the country, with more than 10m members in the country and 3,500 schemes in Surrey alone.

It is an independent organisation made up and led by the community it benefits.

The police work in partnership to get the scheme set up, and gives access to crime information that is relevant to the watches’ areas and alerts to crime for the general area.

The main aim is to reduce crime and disorder and the fear of crime, to improve the quality of life for local residents and make communities safer places to live.

David Hollingsworth, Elmbridge safer neighbourhood inspector, said: “Elmbridge Neighbourhood Watch continues to grow in strength and currently has more than 1,000 roads in the scheme.

“We encourage anyone not already in the scheme to join and we are particularly looking for regional coordinators for Hersham, Walton and Esher.”

Henk van Roest, chairman of the neighbourhood watch steering group, said: “This partnership agreement consolidates the strong working relationship that exists between us and the police.

“I urge everyone who lives in a street that is not currently in a Neighbourhood Watch scheme to join with their neighbours and become part of it.”

Joining Neighbourhood Watch is free and window stickers and crime prevention leaflets can be supplied for free.
