A teenage girl has been charged with criminal damage after a snowball was thrown at a window.

The snowball caused £200 worth of damage to the property in Cumberland Close, Epsom, on Sunday.

A 15-year-old girl was arrested shortly after the snowball was thrown at 4pm. She has been bailed to appear at South East Surrey Youth Court at the end of the month.

In what is believed to be a series of unrelated incidents, a group of teenagers pelted pedestrians and homes with snow in the Longmead estate.

A resident, who declined to be named for fear of reprisals, said about 40 teenage boys were roaming the area on Sunday evening.

She said the teenagers threw snow at people in the street and knocked on doors then pelted the people who opened them.

She said: "It was scary because you just didn't know what they were trying to provoke or how ferocious it was going to get.

"They were out to cause trouble and there was a certain amount of viciousness."

She said the police had come down and one of the teenagers had been taken away in handcuffs.

She added: "I would like to call out to the parents and say do you know what your kids are getting up to?

"Many of these kids are going to be normal everyday kids but there are pretty nasty ring leaders."
