The Independent Police Complaints Commission has confirmed it is investigating police involvement in the case of Rebecca Sessacar.

Mrs Sessacar was found dead at her home in Duppas Hill Terrace on December 20.

Bulent Sessacar, 28, has been charged with her murder and is currently remanded in custody before appearing at the Old Bailey.

The Metropolitan Police Service referred the incident on December 21.

An independent investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding the MPS’ response, actions and decisions relating to police contact with the family.

The IPCC are also looking at the response of the MPS in relation to calls made by neighbours on December 20 and any previous contact with the family.

IPCC Commissioner Jennifer Izekor said: "This is a terribly tragic case in which a young woman has lost her life and my thoughts are with Rebecca’s daughter and her family.

"Our independent investigation will focus specifically on the decisions, actions and responses of the Metropolitan Police Service in relation to incidents involving the Sessacar family.

"It is right we are mindful of the murder investigation which is underway and therefore we have to be cautious about information we make public so as not to interfere with the ongoing criminal proceedings.

"I understand some may wish to know whether police responded appropriately to incidents involving Rebecca and her family and that is something which will take time to establish.

“Our findings will be made public as soon as we are able.”
