A police and crime consultation event will be held in Sutton as the mayor of London, Boris Johnson, sets out his priorities for policing.

The event will feature the deputy mayor for policing and crime, Stephen Greenhalgh, and the assistant commissioner for territorial policing, Simon Byrne.

Mr Johnson is pledging to get more constables than ever on to the capital's streets.

However, the decision to focus on street policing and prioritising police numbers means many of the Metropolitan Police's front counters, including Wallington Police Station, could be closed.

Mr Johnson said: “Putting more officers on the streets is key to driving down crime and boosting public confidence in the police and that is why it is at the heart of our plans for policing in the capital.

“In the current economic climate there is no denying that tough decisions will have to be made but policing in the capital is changing and we must change with it by creating a police force that is ready to tackle the issues that matter most to Londoners.”

It will be held on Tuesday, February 12, at the Secombe Theatre Auditorium, Cheam Road, at 6pm.
