Action Fraud to help police tackle online scammers
8:50am Tuesday 5th February 2013 in News By Mike Pyle
Net tightens on internet fraudsters
The net is tightening on internet fraudsters with the launch of a new service.
Action Fraud, a new one-stop, national reporting centre, is taking reports of internet fraud on behalf of the Metropolitan Police from this week on.
It means specially trained staff will be able to deal with victims and then refer them to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau which coordinates information from all over the country.
Detective Superintendent Dave Clark said: "From now on fraud reports across London will be fed directly into Action Fraud and from there into the NFIB, where they will be analysed and used to pin point repeat and significant offenders and lead police officers directly to the fraudster’s front door.
"The reports will also help shape the wider intelligence picture that is identifying emerging threats and making the UK more resistant to the threat posed by fraud."
You can report fraud at www.actionfraud.co.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm.
