Go-Gym in Sutton will take unwanted mobiles to help Radio Marsden appeal
A gym has joined the fight to save a hospital radio station by encouraging people to donate their old phones.
Go-Gym in Sutton Park Road has launched the Fit for Phone appeal, which will give fitness fans the chance to donate their old phones to raise money for Radio Marsden.
The money raised will go towards replacing ageing equipment at the station which faces closure if it cannot modernise.
Gym manager Mark Rayner launched the appeal after reading about Radio Marsden in the Sutton Guardian. He said: "I’ve been reading about the fantastic work the station does at the Royal Marsden and it’s unthinkable that such a well-loved and well-known local charity should be in this position after being on-air for more than 40-years."
Radio Marsden needs to raise £50,000 to ensure its survival. Other businesses are also offering donation points for mobile phones.
Chairman Jason Reynolds said: "We are very grateful to Go-Gym and all the businesses that are supporting us by acting as collection points for mobile phones."
A full list of collection points can be found at www.radiomarsden.co.uk.
