Sutton Officers taking part in London-wide Operation Big Wing
Four people have been arrested and more than 50 drivers stopped as part of a giant police operation.
Officers in Sutton have been taking part in Operation Big Wing, a day-long drive to catch criminals across London, which kicked off with raids in Sutton at 4.15am.
Four people in Sutton - three men and one woman - have been arrested on suspicion of a range of offences including possession of Class A drugs and harassment. There were also 51 cars stopped at a roadside checkpoint in Stafford Road, Wallington, where traffic officers were checking for uninsured, unlicensed and unroadworthy vehicles between 9am and 11am.
Operation Big Wing activities in Sutton today include arresting outstanding offenders, carrying out search warrants, checking licensed premises, setting up further roadside checkpoints and speaking to shoppers in the High Street.
Chief Inspector Nick Collins, who runs Sutton's neighbourhood teams, said "Residents want us to be out and about tackling the crimes that affect our neighbourhood. It’s also about warning those intent on breaking the law and taking part in criminal activity that we will be doing everything we can to stop them."
Every borough in London is taking part in the operation with more than 7,500 officers involved in total.
