G4S donate thousands to local charities G4S donate thousands to local charities

A multinational security company handed over thousands of pounds to local charities.

G4S Secure Solutions, in Sutton, handed over a cheque for £2,368 to the mayor of Sutton, Councillor Sean Brennan on Monday.

Each week G4S employees contribute to a different monthly charity as part of its dress down Friday’s initiative.

Wasn't this the company that screwed up the Olympics and had to be replaced by the armed forces?

Creative headline writing again, have the local Guardian's sub editors been at The Sun school of Journalism again?

Whilst any charitable donations are gratefully received this headline implies that The Company has donated 'thousands' to local charities but when you read the story it seems to be the staff who have raised this money, handed over in the company's name.

And yes, it was G4S who lost millions over the Olympics security debacle so I'd be surprised if there was anything left to be able to donate 'thousands' to local charities!

G4S perpetuate a race to the bottom for wages and increase job insecurity. For a company that had an annual turn over of over £7 billion in 2009 - a donation of just of £2000 is disgusting.

A bit of free advertising for G4S, supplied by a gullible local press. Today, Sunday, stories are appearing in the national press about lack of taxes paid in UK by this company. So they are still not looking good.

Yes the reports in the national press today do make interesting reading.

And, Jackson80, that was the point I was trying to make, it's actually not a donation from the company, it appears to be individual staff contributions for being able to 'dress down', which they choose to donate to local charities.

Well done to the staff for raising this money and I hope the local charities appreciate the donations - but I wouldn't class £2,368 as 'thousands donated by G4S' !!!

While the headline does slightly confuse G4S with it's employees, the company does have a history of supporting its local communities and charitable good causes.
In 2011, G4S donated around £2.1m was to charitable causes and last summer a £2.5m donation was given to military charities as a goodwill gesture for the army's support during the Olympics.
