Kids get the chance to explore underwater
Children got their first taste of underwater life this week.
Excited youngsters from All Saints Primary School in Carshalton officially opened the Ecology Centre’s new pond dipping platform on Wednesday (5 March).
The children explored a world of underwater beetles, dragonfly larvae and water boatmen while dipping from the deck of the hard-wearing platform, which was constructed by staff and volunteers from the Downlands Countryside Management Project.
Ward councillor Alan Salter, who joined the children at the official opening, said: "The new platform, which stretches further out into the pond than the one it replaced, will give local youngsters the chance to have fun and learn about local nature for years to come."
The opening of the platform marked the start of the Outdoor Education season at the Ecology Centre. Schools are welcome to book a range of sessions that are offered at the Ecology Centre and other Nature Reserves in Sutton.
