Carshalton College students get advice from ex criminals

Ex criminals taught youngsters how to stay out of trouble last week.

Between 27 February and March 1, a team from Only Connect, a group of ex-offenders running crime prevention programmes, went to Carshalton College and delivered theatrical educational sessions for students.

Led by trained ex-offenders, Only Connect used role plays and music to engage students and talk about anti-social behaviour, and challenged attitudes to peer pressure, drugs and weapons.

Lisa Jones, head of student support services at the college organised the sessions.

She said:"The team from Only Connect really engaged with the students and used acting and music to connect with the students and show some of the harsh realities that come with being involved in crime. For the students hearing from ex-offenders who have been involved in crime and prison made for a very powerful message."
