Sutton and Cheam Lib Dem MP Paul Burstow 'set to lose seat' claims Conservative party poll

Will Paul Burstow keep his seat in 2015? Will Paul Burstow keep his seat in 2015?

If there was to be a local election tomorrow Paul Burstow would lose his seat, according to a new report.

Research carried out by former deputy chairman of the Conservative Party Lord Ashcroft, looked at the views of 19,000 voters around Great Britain as to how they would vote at the next election in 2015.

The study found the Conservative party would overturn a four per cent deficit from the 2010 to claim the Sutton and Cheam seat which has been held by former care minister Paul Burstow since 1997.

At the last election in 2010, Mr Burstow registered 46 per cent of the vote, compared to 42 per cent for the Conservatives, but the poll demonstrates a potential sea change in Sutton politics.

Paul Scully, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Sutton and Cheam for 2015, said the race is on.

He said: "There is a lot of work to do, but it is all to play for. For over ten years Paul Burstow has been Westminster's man in Sutton, he has been a mouthpiece for parliament. I want to be Sutton's man in Westminster, and show the people of Sutton I will be their voice."

Paul Burstow said: "If we listened to every mid-term poll I'd have lost my seat long ago.

"Instead, I have worked hard for the people of Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park and have never taken their votes for granted."

Did the people of Sutton tell you to do a massive u-turn on your flagship policy as soon as you got in office, thereby blowing a massive hole in your credibility and condemning Sutton to a conservative MP for the indefinite future?

After supporting Mr Burstow faithfully over several elections he will get what he deserves from our family of voters at the next election - nothing. He has chosen to prioritise his relationship with Tory party policies over his commitment to electors, reneging on his pre-election promises. What a turn-off from politics this has been. It will mean Sutton ends up with an up-dated version of another 'Olga Maitland'!

Paul Scully may be many things but an updated version of Olga Maitland he is not.
My issue is the dodgy postal votes that Burstow has accumulated from care home where only he can gain entrance..that is almost electoral fraud in my book.

Anyone voting for the lib dems over the last decade or so need to have a serious word with themselves. In a country that's beyond liberal already, far too liberal in some respects, what need is there for such a party. Don't vote Con or Lab either, why keep playing their game. Same list of problems fill their manifestos every election since the war and they still can't fix them. Wake up Britain!

My sympathies GreenBrown, so who do I vote for in two years time? As far as I can see there is no one worthy of my vote

If I had to guess, I'd say GreenBrown will vote for a well-known far-right party, which he is happy to encourage others to do privately, yet somewhere deep down knows is shameful and idiotic, so won't state publicly here.

On the contrary, I think people should vote for Ukip or BNP. Failing that, vote for any of the smaller parties just not for the big three.

Shameful, please. Its that sort of attitude that has been encouraged by the ruling and media classes for the last 40 years. Don't discuss the issues, just shout them down with words like bigot, racist etc. Its been a good tool to suppress opposition but it is becoming less effective as people start to wake up. If there is anyone who should feel ashamed of themselves its the brainwashed previous poster.
