Cars seized across Sutton in Operation Cubo
9:00am Saturday 16th March 2013 in News By James Pepper
Two of the vehicles were stopped because they had been involved in burglaries
An uninsured car was seized by police moments after the driver returned home.
After being seen by Sutton Council's Automatic Number Plate Recognition, police arrived at the man's address five minutes after he had got home.
The vehicle was seized for having no insurance and the driver received six points on his licence and a £200 fine.
Five other vehicles seized on Wednesday (13 March) as part of Operation Cubo to crack down on uninsured vehicles and drivers using an incorrect driving licence.
The operation involved roadside checkpoints at three different main routes during the day.
In total 119 vehicles were stopped.
Two of the vehicles were stopped because they had been involved in burglaries, although no offences were found.
Safer Neighbourhoods Inspector Ceri Rowe said: "Why should a tiny minority of people try to get away without paying their insurance premiums when the vast majority of motorists pay up?"
