A new supermarket has created eight jobs for the community and will celebrate its launch with a £500 charity donation.

A Tesco Express will open in Lower Road next week staffed by nine workers from the One Stop it is replacing and a further eight Sutton-based employees.

The supermarket giant is also celebrating the opening by making a £500 donation to Sutton-based children's charity Jigsaw4U, who will also be on hand to cut the ribbon at a ceremony on Tuesday, April 9.

Tesco Express manager Mark Conroy said: "We are delighted to be able to support Jigsaw4u, as they do such wonderful work for the local community.

"We are delighted that they are coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us.

"I am really pleased with my new team and I’m looking forward to working with them.

"In this time of economic uncertainty, it is great that we are able to create jobs for our local community and help get people back into work."

The shop will open for the first time at 8am on Tuesday with the official ribbon-cutting taking place at 10.30am.
