A fundraiser walked more than 80 miles in a day to provide his football club with medical equipment.

Lee Atkinson, manger of the under-16 girls and the disabled teams at Carshalton Athletic, walked all the way from Colston Avenue in Carshalton to Stone Henge, starting on Friday, March 29, and finishing the following day.

The non-stop walk took Mr Atkinson, who was raising money to buy Carshalton Athletic a new defibrillator machine, just 22 hours.

He said: "Anyone can be the victim of a cardiac arrest and every year in the UK 75,000 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest, among them 500 young people under 35 with undiagnosed heart problems.

"The overall survival rate for a patient suffering a cardiac arrest occurring outside hospital is between two per cent and 12 per cent, depending on location.

"This new device will give those associated with the club, and the wider local community, a way of combating any future scares."
