A crooked airport official jailed for a £1 million immigration scam faces another stint behind bars.

Corrupt immigration officer Guy Emmett of Furze Lane, Purley, was jailed for eight years in 2000, after he was convicted of allowing hundreds of illegal immigrants into the country in his role at Gatwick Airport.

Emmett was supposed to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country, but he rubber stamped passports of up to 600 "clients" in return for cash, allowing them to stay in the country for good.

The 48-year-old was ordered to pay back the cash by 2001, but has repayed less than £300,000 of the million-pound haul to date.

At the Old Bailey on Wednesday, March 28, Judge Timothy Pontius gave Emmett six months to repay £1,060,428, minus the £296,000 he has already paid.

The scam which was one of the biggest of its kind, was run with lawyer Christian Jideofo for nearly five years.

Both Emmett and Jideofo, from Barnet, were found guilty of conspiracy to defraud the Secretary of State by issuing bogus stamps and conspiracy to facilitate the entry of illegal immigrants into the UK.

Jideofo was jailed for six-and-a-half years in July 2000.
