I am writing to express my dismay at the recent removal of a small winter-flowering prunus that stood on the corner of Monksdene Gardens and All Saints Road.

The tree, which was growing outside a care home for the elderly, had just come into blossom and was something to be admired at this bleak time of year. The tree was not diseased, nor was it large enough to have caused any damage to the road or to any of the adjacent properties. I wonder whether I am alone in being distressed by occurrences of this kind?

It seems to me this is yet another example of the systematic destruction of amenities in the borough.

The street is certainly the poorer for its loss.
