I was delighted to read that my local councillors are working (Councillors work tirelessly to improve the high street, March 14).

I would expect nothing less, in fact.

My concern is that it has taken them nearly three decades to achieve so little.

The empty shops are a testament to the fact that the council is simply not working hard enough to support shopkeepers.

The new Carshalton library is simply the old Carshalton library in a new location, not a new feature of the village.

The Westcroft refurbishment has left us with a leisure centre that we had previously and the refurbishment of Honeywood Lodge has left us with, you guessed it, Honeywood Lodge.

This is hardly great progress.

In the same letter I was surprised to learn that our councillors are also laying claim to success of the firework display and the environmental fair in the park.

Given that the firework display has been a local feature for more than 50 years I find it hard to understand why our Liberal Democrats are taking the credit for the great work of the Wallington and Carshalton Round Table.

Couns Pollock, Salter and Whitehead, please, do not tell us how hard you are working then try to steal the credit for something that has been in place longer than I can remember.

We will not be fooled.
