A gas leak causing traffic chaos in Kingston has been fixed – but repair workers have found another in the same area.
An Southern Gas Networks spokeswoman said the leaks in Queen Elizabeth Road were caused by faulty joints in the gas mains.
Pipes can be damaged over time by corrosion and constant movement of the ground under the weight of traffic, she added.
Two lanes in Cromwell Road have been closed after a resident reported smelling gas, causing tail-backs along the one-way system.
SGN said the road should re-open fully on Sunday.
