Police seized a number of cannabis plants and arrested two people in a raid this morning following a tip-off from the public.

A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis when officers searched a house in the Greenway, Epsom.

Police were acting on information passed on by the charity Crimestoppers, which allows people to report crime anonymously.

Epsom and Ewell Neighbourhood Inspector Craig Knight offered thanks to the public who had got in touch to tell them the place existed.

Insp Knight said: "It was purely the community taking a stand."

He said Crimestoppers actually passes on quite a lot of information, which is then filtered through the police intelligence unit.

He said: "It’s a really good way to get information to police.

"There are bits of information that provide the bit in the jigsaw which sends us in a direction to act."

The people arrested this morning remain in police custody in Reigate.
