A 67-year-old man has died after going into cardiac arrest after discovering his home had been burgled yesterday.

Police were called to reports of a burglary in Beckford Road, Woodside, at 7.10pm on Wednesday, April 3.

Prior to officers arriving on the scene, the man was taken ill. He was taken to a south London hospital by London Ambulance, but was later pronounced dead.

A police spokesman said next of kin are aware of the death.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, but the death is being treated as non-suspicious.

Croydon police are investigating the burglary which is believed to have happened between 11.30am and 7pm.

No suspects were in the house when the owner arrived at the property.

No arrests have been made and inquiries continue.

A spokeswoman for London Ambulance Service (LAS) said: “We were called at 7.20pm to reports of a man unwell. We sent two ambulance crews and a single responder in a car.

“Our staff treated a man in his 60’s who was in cardiac arrest, and he was taken to Croydon University Hospital.”
