Sutton pupils are more likely to get into their first choice secondary school than almost anywhere else in London.
New figures from the Department of Education show that more than 80 per cent of Sutton children are getting into their first choice school, making the borough the second most successful, behind only Havering on 85 per cent.
The figures show that 82 per cent of pupils were admitted to their first choice, 10 per cent to their second and 3 per cent to their third choice of schools.
It means that nearly 12 per cent more Sutton pupils are being placed in their first choice secondary school than on average across Greater London.
It continues an upward trend for the borough following figures of 72 per cent in 2011.
Councillor Dave Callaghan, chairman of the children, family and education committee, said: "We are pleased with the outcome despite the demands on school places.
"Schools and Sutton Council have worked very hard to achieve this."
Sutton has 14 secondary schools which admit a total of approximately 2,000 pupils each year.
