I was sorry to read about Mr Barnes's case. He was certainly unwise (to say the least) to buy ammo and try out the pistol, but the whole matter seems to be rather a waste of time and money, perhaps involving public funds.
Mr Barnes does not seem to be a danger to the public, particularly as the pistol has now been confiscated. What a pity if it is destroyed; it is a treasured family heirloom, and if it can't go to another family member can't it go to a museum? Or has it already been destroyed?
On a happier note, it was good to see the picture of Joanna Rowsell and the gold pillar box. I was pleased to see that the inscription appears in Braille; it's visible in your picture but much more obvious when one sees the actual plaque. Incidentally the box is not "just outside" Nonsuch High School but several minutes' walk away (though Joanna would cycle the distance in seconds). We are fortunate to have this splendid young woman in our area!
