Cannabis plants and bags of suspected drugs were seized during a bust early this morning.

Officers raided the house in Mill Lane, Carshalton, and found 29 cannabis plants growing in a specially adapted heating and light set up in the front bedroom as well as bags of suspected drugs in the living room and another bedroom.

Police arrested a 52-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who were in the house at the time.

The raid happened after officers were given a tip-off by neighbours who had suspicions about the house and was part of operation Hawk - a London-wide drive to encourage communities to come forward with information about suspected criminals.

Inspector Neil Tyre said: "The cultivation of drugs is illegal and could fund other criminal activities. Residents should not have to suffer in silence.

"Please report any addresses you suspect are being used for growing drugs – and we will put a stop to it."

Police say the tell-tale signs of a cannabis factory include a strong, sickly smell, lighting and ventilation equipment being taken into the home, constantly blocked-off windows, lots of people visiting at unusual hours, lots of power cables coming into the house, the constant buzz of ventilation, lights always being on and high levels of heat and condensation.

If you suspect a house in your area is a cannabis factory, you can call police on 101 or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
