Four cars were seized when police held an operation targeting uninsured drivers.

The crackdown involved roadside checkpoints being set up around town yesterday.

Officers equipped with number plate recognition cameras stopped 189 cars and seized four which were uninsured.

They also arrested a man on suspicion of drink driving.

The drivers of the seized cars were fined £200 each and were given six penalty points. They will also face additional costs to retrieve their cars.

Inspector Ceri Rowe, who led the operation, said the crackdowns will continue as research shows uninsured drivers are more likely to commit other crimes and be involved in crashes.

The drive was part of operation Cubo, a London-wide scheme.
