Burger-lovers will be disappointed after Wandsworth councillors have rejected proposals to keep the Clapham Junction branch of McDonalds open until 3am at weekends.

The fast food restaurant had applied for permission to stay open until 3am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings.

But councillors on the licensing sub-committee rejected the idea when they met to discuss the application last week.

Committee chairman Councillor Alex Jacob said: "We felt that it would be a mistake to allow this time extension to go-ahead.

"We were concerned that local residents would suffer undue levels of noise and disturbance as late as 3am and beyond and in our view there was no real justification for permitting such late night opening."

Under its existing license, the St John’s Road restaurant is allowed to remain open until 1am during the week and 2am at weekends.
