A driver who ploughed into a bus stop leaving a woman dead and another man injured days before Christmas, has been jailed for more than five years.

Nathan Davis of Normanton House, Clapham, fled the scene after crashing into the bus stop on Streatham High Road, at about 5.30am on December 22 last year.

Ten minutes earlier the 27-year-old who was driving an Audi A3, was seen leaving the scene of another collision in London Road, Norbury.

Hotel receptionist Veronica Vanessa Chango-Alvarez was mowed down as she waited to catch a bus to work.

The 31-year-old who lived in Tulse Hill, had stayed the night at her mother's house when the incident happened just feet away from the front door of the family home.

A post-mortem gave her cause of death as multiple injuries.

A 51-year-old man was also injured at the bus stop.

Davis who abandoned the scene, handed himself into police five days after the crash.

Appearing at Inner London Crown Court yesterday, he was sentenced to five years and four months imprisonment for death by dangerous driving and three years for inflicting grievous bodily harm which will run concurrently.

He was also banned from driving for six years and must pass an extended driving test when his ban ends.
