A man was attacked and robbed on his way home from work.

Sojy Thomas, 41, was walking home from Waddon Marsh tram stop at about 7pm on March 26, when he was set upon by a group of youths.

The dad-of-two who was repeatedly kicked and punched, suffered broken teeth and injuries to his nose and eyes in the attack, during which his wallet, mobile phone and chain was stolen.

He has made a personal appeal for witnesses to come forward.

He said: "I was walking through an alleyway which is regularly used as a shortcut. I didn't see anyone behind me but suddenly there were seven or eight people surrounding me.

"They attacked me hitting my head and kicking me from behind. Then when I was on the ground they were searching for my mobile and wallet, before taking a gold chain from my neck.

"I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

"There was no CCTV there, but if anyone saw anything then tell the police."

A police spokesman confirmed they were investigating a robbery in an alleyway near to Martin Crescent and Miller Road in Broad Green.

Anyone with information should call Croydon CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
