One of the borough's biggest babies has been born, tipping the scales at 12lb 9oz.
Giant baby James Hunt was born on Easter Sunday after his mother Heather Hunt battled through a 12 hour labour.
Mother-of-three Mrs Hunt said: "It's by far the most painful thing I have ever done, but it was worth it".
The newest edition to the Hunt family arrived in front of a packed out theatre after father David accidentally triggered an emergency alarm.
He said: "I was trying to get some assistance but I was in a bit of a fluster. As I went to press the button which called for help.
"I accidentally pressed the wrong one and five midwives rushed in. When they saw how big he was going to be they decided to stick around and watch."
Mrs Hunt, 32, whose two and four year old children were "quick" births, is now back at home in North Cheam looking after their newborn.
Computer programmer Mr Hunt said young James was doing well at home.
He said: "He was a bit of a chunky monkey, but now he is at home with us he is doing really well.
"Heather is still a bit drained but I'm not surprised. The midwives and all the staff at the hospital were great."
Head of Midwifery at St Helier Hospital, Sally Sivas, said: "We are delighted that Heather and baby James are both doing well and we wish them all the best.
"Last year we delivered 5,437 babies in what was our busiest ever 12 months, so we are used to delivering babies of all shapes and sizes.
"But it is safe to say that 12lb 9oz is one of the biggest babies we have ever delivered.
"Our records show that James is our second heaviest, behind a baby born some years ago, who weighed more than 13lbs.
The average weight of a baby born at St Helier is just over 9lbs.
"Our staff are committed to providing excellent care for all our patients, and we pride ourselves on the quality of the service we offer to mothers and their babies at our maternity departments.
We are just happy that we could be on hand to help Heather through her birth and deliver a healthy baby boy."
