A building repair company has hit upon a novel way to avoid sky-high parking fines and charges, by hiring van-sitters.

Earlsfield-based business Aspect is employing 25 people to drive its vans, helping workmen avoid the challenge of finding parking, and being hit with fines after raking up costs of more than £5,000 a month.

The 'sitters' take the vehicle and drive around the locality waiting for a call from the workmen, while also carrying out simple errands.

Nathan Majumdar, company director, said parking tickets in London do not support businesses that rely on drivers like Aspect.

He said: "As a result we can fit in a couple more jobs in a day because you are not spending half an hour just to park.

"We operate around the M25, based in Earlsfield, and in London [get] absolutely smashed in terms of fines.

"It is keeping London up and running. It is creating jobs as well, bringing local people into business and doing things."
