A second year student at Esher College has been awarded its annual sports person of the year award for her dedication to the college’s hockey team.

Elizabeth Williams, 17, from Twickenham, was presented the award in memory of Charlie O’Donoghue, an Esher College student who tragically died in 2003.

Libby was selected for the award for demonstrating outstanding sporting achievements and behaviour during their time at the college.

Libby has been a dedicated member of the Esher College Mixed Hockey team for the past season and has also captained the girls British Colleges sport team.

She has gone through a series of trials to be selected for the British Colleges Girls national team, where she regularly takes part in national fixtures, and will also travel on tour with them this summer to Portugal.

Abbie Chadd, PE teacher and hockey coach at Esher College, said: “Libby has demonstrated herself over the past season to be a highly talented and committed hockey player.

“Not only has she strived for success individually in competing for a place in the national squad, but is also a real team player using her technical skill and knowledge of the game to push the mixed squad forward.

“She is a pleasure to watch and coach and is a very deserving candidate for this very special award.”
