A nanny accused of killing a baby in her care while in the US has been indicted on a murder charge.

The grand jury in Massachusetts also accused Aisling McCarthy Brady of assault and battery on a child causing bodily injuries yesterday.

Sameer Sabir, 34, from Thornton Heath and wife Nada Siddiqui's daughter Rehma, died in hospital two days after her first birthday while in the care of the nanny.

Brady, 34, who is from Ireland, has been charged with violently assaulting Rehma at her family home in Boston Massachusetts, on January 14.

She had previously pleaded not guilty to assault and battery on a child causing substantial bodily injury.

Brady, who cared for Rehma for six months, was jailed on £325,000 bail while authorities waited for autopsy results.

Police were called to Mr Sabir’s home just before 5pm on January 14, after Ms McCarthy Brady of Lavey, in the Irish Republic, called emergency services.

Rehma was found unconscious and was taken to hospital, where she was treated for bleeding to her brain and eyes. She died of her injuries two days later.

A neighbour reported hearing screaming from the house for an hour and a half before it fell silent.

Investigators have revealed a blood-stained pillow, blanket and baby wipes were found in Rehma's bedroom.

In February a judge agreed for the preservation of all records related to the baby's travel from June 2012 until she died.

The defence has said the baby returned home malnourished after travelling overseas, which includes Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and London.

Mr Sabir a UCL graduate who attended Whitgift School, moved to the US from Croydon four years ago.

It has emerged Brady was allegedly in the US illegally, having only been authorised to stay 90 days.
