I am writing in response to Andrew Theobald’s letter (Clinical Commissioning Group should call on MPs to save St Helier).

I was pleased that Mr Theobald, along with many other residents, was able to attend the public meeting I organised to allow residents to voice their opposition to the Better Services Better Value (BSBV) review that threatens the accident and emergency and maternity units at St Helier Hospital.

Paul Burstow and I asked Labour MP Siobhain McDonagh and Conservative MP Chris Grayling to sign a letter drafted by us calling on local Clinical Commissioning Groups not to become involved in the BSBV review, although it is fair to say they can be in no doubt where I stand on this issue already, nor can the 8,000 people who have signed my petition.

I will continue to work alongside residents and campaign for St Helier Hospital, something I have been doing for the past 23 years, to save vital health services and get the flawed BSBV process abandoned.

TOM BRAKE
MP for Carshalton and Wallington
