A talented teen is on track for success in a singing competition that could see him take the mic at the O2 Arena.

Kamahl Kelly, 13, hopes to fend off thousands of others to win TeenStar, a national competition for youngsters.

The R and B fan, from Longhurst Road, Woodside, wowed judges at the first round in Camden last month.

He will take the stage again for the second round on April 21, knowing that another stellar performance could see him compete in the grand finals at the o2 on July 13.

More than 8,000 youngsters entered the competition.

Kamahl, a pupil at Harris Academy Purley, said: "I'm feeling a bit nervous but you have got to believe in yourself. It would mean a lot to me to get through to the next round.

"When I start to sing it is such an adrenaline rush."

The talented youngster has been singing for around three years and is inspired by The Weeknd and Drake.

His school music teacher, Nathalie van der Weide, persuaded him to enter TeenStar.

She said: "'Occasionally, as a music teacher, you meet an exceptional talent who you know will make it one day.

"I am proud to be able to teach him how to write songs himself as well as teach him the piano. He is certainly one to look out for.

"He has the talent to go all the way to the final and win the competition."

The next round will take place at Dingwalls in Chalk Farm Road, Camden Lock.
