Sandown Park racecourse has been honoured with an award for exhibition excellence in one of the industry’s most respected ceremonies.

The Esher racecourse won best exhibition venue under 4,000sq m at the annual Exhibition News awards at the London Lancaster Hotel on Wednesday, April 10, beating Silverstone among others.

The racecourse was represented by Amelia Tyson regional senior event manager, who won best venue event manager at the 2012 ceremony, business development executive Tracy Rusbridge and Kathryn Thompson, regional conference and events sales manager.

Sandown Park is a famous leisure destination for avid horseracing fans and holds 27 races each year.

It has also hosted more than 70 non-race events, including conferences and private celebrations, as well as the organising committee for the Olympic and Paralympic games for the duration of the cycling time trial.

Jockeys and fans paid tribute to the famous racecourse, including Rupert Trevelyan, regional director for the London Region of the Jockey Club, who said: “First and foremost, I’d like to congratulate the Sandown Park team for winning this award.

“The accolade is absolutely deserved, and is great recognition for Sandown and the London region as a whole.”
