The former Walton library building has been transformed into a community hub for voluntary sector organisations.

The £800,000 refurbishment has transformed the old Victorian school, and the conversion involved putting in a mezzanine floor, underpinning the turret and creating modern office facilities and meeting rooms for 40 people.

The building, which will be known as the Elmbridge Community Hub, will be home to the Walton Weybridge and Hersham Citizen’s Advice, the Counselling Partnership, Surrey Independent Living Council and Surrey Police.

The refurbishment is part of the council’s drive to invest in community facilities and assist voluntary organisations that serve residents during difficult times.

The refurbished building will provide improved facilities for the organisations and modern meeting rooms.

Rob Moran, chief executive of Elmbridge Council, said: “This is a large and innovative investment by the council and a strong sign that our councillors want to support our voluntary sector partners in their important work serving local people.

“The quality of the refurbishment is second to none and we have a building of quality with a definite wow factor.”

The community hub building opened on April 22.
