Two adventurous job hunters could land themselves the “best job in the world” after they were shortlisted for their dream roles in Tourism Australia’s competition.

More than 600,000 video applications were submitted from people across the world for the six jobs, which include wildlife caretaker, taste master and lifestyle photographer.

Doug Sidolph from Hampton and Libby Hadrill from Richmond are among 150 candidates still in contention for the top positions.

Mr Sidolph missed out in the final round of the competition in 2009 so has high hopes to bag the outback adventurer role in Australia’s Northern Territory this time around.

Miss Hadrill, who is a geography and environmental management graduate, has been shortlisted for the park ranger role in Queensland after speaking about her adventurous spirit and experience in her video.

The pair will now be asked to provide references and may be invited to a final assessment in Australia in June, with the six successful job candidates announced on June 21.

The competition is part of a push to promote tourism opportunities provided by Australia’s Working Holiday Maker programme.

Andrew McEvoy, Tourism Australia’s managing director, said the response from the UK to the global competition had been huge and it was very exciting to see 23 of them progress to the final stages.

He said: “Tourism Australia’s competition has clearly struck a chord with Brits, and I know there are some fantastic entries from the UK in the mix.

“Now it’s time for the shortlisted contestants to show the UK public what they’re made of.

“We’re looking for great storytellers, someone adventurous, inspiring – a person eager to jump into the role and soak up all Australia has to offer.”
