Teenage girls should be encouraged to “blow their own trumpet”, according to a Wimbledon school.

Wimbledon High School, a private girls’ school that frequently tops league tables, attracted national attention this week for seemingly offering lessons in boasting.

The £15,000-a-year school is hosting a blow your own trumpet week, where girls have been encouraged to shout about their successes by pinning their achievements to a tree.

The school has previously held a week dedicated to failure, where girls were encouraged to identify and learn from their failures and weaknesses.

Headmistress Heather Hanbury said the week was not about being arrogant, but about students recognising their own strengths and building confidence.

Responding to claims that the school was encouraging girls to boast about their success, Ms Hanbury said: “We are not encouraging your daughters to boast.

“We are encouraging them to be brave enough to acknowledge their strengths and achievements.”
