Police are appealing for information after a teenage girl was followed by a teenage boy, who made inappropriate comments towards her.

The 14-year-old was walking along Weston Green Road, near Thames Ditton station, at about 5pm on Monday, April 29, when she noticed a man in his late teens following her.

The girl confronted the man at the green area of the road and he claimed he was completing a survey and began asking questions.

The victim gave short answers and continued walking. Upon reaching the junction of Newlands Avenue, the man asked inappropriate questions.

The girl then knocked on the door of a nearby property and the man walked away.

The incident was reported to the girl’s family, who reported it to the police.

The man was described as of Chinese, Japanese or south Asian descent, in his late teens, quite short, of medium build with short, dark brown fluffy hair and no facial hair.

He was wearing a black leather jacket, black trousers and a rucksack.

Detective Constable Dion O’Shea, said: “This was a concerning incident for the girl involved who felt intimidated and threatened by this older teenager's behaviour.

“The girl who was involved in this incident did exactly the right thing and kept to a main road and knocked on the door of a property when she became concerned for her personal safety.

“Incidents of this nature are very rare but thinking about your route home, especially if it is a journey that you make regularly or late at night, is always advisable.”

Anyone with any information should contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference EL/13/2705.
