Indie hero Miles Kane has announced he will be playing a gig in Kingston as he celebrates the launch of his second solo album.

The ex-Rascals frontman will be performing at Banquet Records’ weekly New Slang night at McClusky’s on Thursday, June 6, days after new album Don’t Forget Who You Are hits the shelves.

The Wirral-born musician has been a mainstay of the indie scene since 2008, when he was singer, guitarist and principle songwriter of The Rascals.

During a tour in support of the Arctic Monkeys, Kane developed a friendship with Monkeys frontman Alex Turner, and the pair formed a side project, The Last Shadow Puppets.

Their debut album, The Age Of The Understatement, went to number one in the UK album charts and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

Since leaving The Rascals in 2009, Kane has pursued a successful solo career, with his 2011 debut album Colour Of The Trap reaching number 11 in the charts.

The follow-up will be released on June 3, and the title track was released as a single last week.

Banquet Records manager Jon Tolley said: “We’re delighted to welcome debonair northerner and tunesmith extraordinaire Miles Kane to New Slang.

“Miles’ solo work has seen him dubbed one of Britain’s landmark composers by MOJO, mixing classic 60s influences with a cinematic perspective.

“He’s also collaborated with a veritable galaxy of indie rock stars, from Noel Gallagher to Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys, as well as supporting the likes of Beady Eye and Kasabian.”

Tickets cost £10.
