People are being asked whether homes should be built on the greenbelt in a survey by a community group.

Forum Ashtead Community Vision (ACV) is canvassing opinion to find out what dwellings are needed and where to put them.

Over 400 people have answered questions to help form a development plan, which will become part of planning policy.

The survey closes at 7pm on Sunday.

More than 200 people attended ACV’s first drop-in session on Saturday to learn about the forum’s work and the creation of a Neighbourhood Development Plan.

ACV said many attendees were worried about building on the greenbelt but appreciated that Ashtead does need more housing and had few available sites.

Andy Ellis, chairman of ACV, said they wanted to hear about how moving the greenbelt would affect different areas of Ashtead.

Mr Ellis said: "We want to find out what people’s views are of future housing needs in Ashtead.

"The key thing is to get enough people to respond. The more people we hear from the better."

The group was formed in January to enable the community to play a role in deciding its own future.

Issues include choosing where to build, maintaining the character of Ashtead and protecting green spaces.
