A series of short plays based on the life of Margaret Thatcher have been created in response to her death.

Battersea's Theatre503 team have invited a broad spectrum of writers to create a series of plays looking back at Thatcher, the woman, the politics and her legacy.

Writers taking part include Dan Rebellato (Checkov in Hell), Fraser Grace (Breakfast with Mugabe) and Judy Upton (Ashes and Sand).

Daily Telegraph theatre critic Dominic Cavendish, and writer of Hacked, has also written a piece contributing to the series.

The series, which has been coined Thatcherwrite, has been curated by Theatre503's literary manager Steve Harper.

He says: "No other figure in living memory has been the catalyst for such divisive expressions of emotion - honoured by the pomp and regalia of a ceremonial funeral whilst mocked as a burning effigy on makeshift funeral pyres.

"Love her or hate her, her unique achievements were many, her personality etched onto the history of this country, for good and for bad.

"She was a game changer, leaving the country and the political landscape she inherited irreparably altered."

Theatre503 is renown for commissioning series of plays written in direct response to current affairs.

Previous seasons include Hacked which explored the phone hacking scandal and Coalition, a portrayal of the current UK political landscape.

The Theatre503 team said the small venue, devoted to new writing, means it is well placed to respond to the changing world around us.
