Heart patients will be provided with appointments quicker, following the opening of a new echocardiogram service in Thames Ditton.

The mayor of Elmbridge Councillor Janet Turner cut the ribbons at the official opening of the echocardiogram service at Emberbrook Health Centre on Wednesday, May 1.

The Friends of Thames Ditton Hospital have raised £40,000 to fund the equipment, which will allow services to be provided with two weeks, rather than patients waiting for up to eight weeks for appointments and results.

The money raised is in addition to the £60,000 previously raised for other equipment at the health centre.

Dr Arvind Vasudeva, consultant cardiologist, said he believed this to be a first for a community hospital.

The new services will serve patients from all GP practices in Esher, Claygate, Hinchley Wood, the Dittons, Weston Green and Molesey.
